10 Reasons Why You Should go Abroad for a While

Abroad

Discover yourself & Go Abroad

When you’re living in another country you could discover things you’re good at, or maybe not. Maybe you’ll discover something you like to do, that you never thought about when you lived back home. You will become a new person, with a fresh look on all the new stuff around you. Go abroad, explore the environment and discover yourself!

Learn about other cultures

When you’re at home you can learn about other cultures, but it will be different. When you live between them, you really get to know the culture. You live like one and eventually you will copy their manners. Even if you don’t want to copy, you will! You can also learn about your own culture by seeing your home culture in another point of view. In this way you could develop your own view, instead of accepting those defined by where you happen to come from.

Get independent and grown up

Living somewhere else while you go abroad means that you’ll live without your family and friends. And if you still live with your parents… a whole new world opens. You have to do everything yourself; the laundry, cooking, groceries and spending money. But that also means that nobody tells you what to do and at what time you have to get home. You can eat whenever you want and you can sleep whenever you want. By living alone you are getting much more independent and you will learn to make your own decisions.

Make friends for a lifetime

New home, new friends. You will get to know a lot of new people. You’re going to make new friends that you will never forget! The moments and adventures that you share with them will be hilarious and so much fun! You may not like every person you meet, but you’ll make at lot of friends that always keep in touch with you after you get back home.

Resume

Don’t forget about your resume. A study, work of internship abroad is a great addition on your resume. If you are able to explore a new country, picking up international skills, get a job or you’ll have decent grades, you are a pretty interesting candidate.

Appreciate smaller things

At your hometown you got everything you need. But when you’re going abroad, you cannot bring all your stuff. That means that you have to make decisions what to bring with you and what to leave behind. Your new residential address will make you appreciate smaller things. The iPod that u used everyday at home, is never touched during your stay abroad.

Discover a new lifestyle / food

Everything is going to be different. People talk different and got different standards. Maybe they sleep much longer in the morning then you are used to, or the other way around. Al these things are there for you to find out. You’ll definitely discover things that you really like, and also some that you don’t. Not only the standards, also the food is different. Try it out and maybe learn to make it yourself!

Learn a new language

This is something that you will do automatically. You won’t speak it fluent like the local persons, but you will be able to pick up some words and sentences after a while. How awesome is it that you can understand another language. Maybe u can use it in your further career!

Be spontaneous en go on adventures

Don’t sit back and relax all the time. Get out of your comfort zone and go outside to discover the country. Besides studying and work you also have a lot of time to travel true the country and discover al the beautiful places!

Floating Airport on Sea

Floating airport, did you ever heard about it? It sounds so futuristic that you wouldn’t think it’s real. But what if it becomes reality, could you imagine that? It seems that the idea already existed back in 1930.

Floating Airport

Airports are huge and they need a lot of space. But not everyone has that kind of space to build the airport they need. There are islands that have an airport, but also need the space that it’s taken. In that case they start to create something new, but what could solve this problem? Seeking for solutions, planners will sometimes get their ideas to the sea. What if they make an airstrip that is floating on the sea? There is plenty of room for that!

The idea sounds like something new in the travel world, but don’t forget that there is already something similar. Think about the aircraft carriers and warships, they also have floating plane decks over the sea. Now you’re probably thinking; why don’t we make the same as they have? Unfortunately, that’s not going to work. The aircrafts they use are much faster then the commercial craft. Their decks are too small, which means that they cannot take-off or land on such a small airstrip. But what if we refine the ships en redesign it for the commercial craft? Strip the engines, anchor it on a set location and make it wider and longer so it’s big enough to land on. The result would be a large floating airport!

Floating Airport

The concept is clear, but how about the costs? It is true that building an airport is expensive. That is going to be much more expensive when you build a floating airport on water. Therefore it is not a surprise that it’s still not able to become reality. There are prices between $20 billion and $63 billion! After decades of studies it seems that it’s not impossible to create. Its ultimate development and application is not a matter of technology, but more of getting the economics right. When the money is sure, the floating airport could be reality one day!

7 Tips for Traveling as a Couple

Are you going on a vacation with you lover? Is this the first time? Traveling the world with someone can be amazing. You share the same memories, have hilarious moments and explore new things together. But lets be honest, traveling as a couple is not always rainbows and butterflies. We are giving you some tips to prepare yourselves for the first vacation together.

Traveling as a Couple

Make a plan

You and your partner are going on a trip. Don’t forget that you are not the same person; you don’t like the same things. That’s why it is very important to plan your travel together. Both of you are spending your money and time to do something you want to be an amazing experience. If you do not come to terms the first pass, do not give up! Each of you makes a list with 10 places you would like to go together. After that, you can compare the list and see if there are any matches. If not, make a new one!

Compromise

Traveling as a couple can be different than you’ve expected. Maybe you want to do other things then your partner would like. Sometimes you have to give up some things because there is not much time left. The other person also wants to do things he or she likes. That’s why you have to compromise. Try to take a look at the time you have at your destination. How many of the things you would like to do, fit in your time schedule? You and your partner could also make a list with some things you want to do. Schedule in one each person until you have filled in your time. Both of you should be happy and excited for the trip you are planning.

Budget

Maybe you both have the same budget, and then it is going to be easy. But what if you don’t? Discuss this item before you go on your trip. Maybe you, or your partner, do not earn the same. The person with the higher income want’s to stay in a 4 star hotel and the person with the lower income wants to stay in a bed and breakfast. That is not going to work if you don’t have the money for that. Set a budget what you want to spend during the days. If the big spender really wants to go in the expensive hotel, then he/she should cover the difference. Set a daily budget together, because the topic money has to be avoid during your trip together.

Different setting, different you

When you are going to another country with different standards, where live other people and where is another way of living, you could change a bit. It is not weird that you become another person while your living in another environment. You have never seen anything like it, so your mind and body is going to react. You will discover other things you like or what you’re good at. Not only you, also your partner is going true that phase. That means that you both could change. Try to accept them and enjoy the new experience together while you’re traveling as a couple.

Fun and Romance

Because you are so busy with seeing and discover new things, doesn’t mean you cannot have fun or be romantic. When you’re staying somewhere different, your surrounding can overwhelm you. But don’t forget your other half. Since you are in a new country, you can also discover new things that you can’t do at home. Maybe you’re living in a cold country without a beach. Then you could go and have a romantic picnic! Or maybe go roller-skating together true a huge park, which could be fun and romantic also. Have fun and enjoy life together!

Take some time alone while youre traveling as a couple

This is not only necessary at home, also on a vacation. Don’t do everything together with your partner, that’s not healthy. Do some things alone, or with a friend you’ve got to know during your trip. It keeps your relationship strong. You both have different things you like and it’s not wrong to do them! Even if your partner doesn’t like to do them, it’s something YOU like. Also your partner has some things you don’t like or want to do. Let them be there happy self and do the things they love. Traveling as a couple can have the feeling you’ll become one person. And you’re not! It could feel weird and lonely when you are apart, but you’ll also have a chance to miss him/her.

Relax

The list above sounds so serious (it is), but you also need to RELAX! Make some time to do the things above and the rest of the time is to sit back en chill. You’re on a vacation, which means you can make road trips, get your feet in the sand while you enjoy the sunset with your lover and a cocktail in your hand. That sounds like a perfect moment! Have some fun on your vacation and go on some great adventures.

Is a Last-Minute Really Cheaper?

A last-minute vacation, is that really cheaper? What is the best moment to book a ticket? The opinions are divided. The one thinks it is cheaper, the other thinks that’s better to book your vacation early. Online Travel Company Expedia has teamed up with the Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) and researched the best period to book your vacation. The research includes information from nearly eight billion flight data around the world.

Best moment to book

What is the best moment to book a ticket and what are the best days to fly? All have influence on the price. It is cheaper to book a ticket over the weekend and to fly on a weekday. Expedia’s research also pointed out that prices would fall again in 2016. The prices were falling before, between the year 2014 and 2015, by eight per cent compared to the previous year. The decrease is expected to continue this year. The cause of the price drop would result from growing airlines, low oil prices and the strong dollar!

But what is the best option, booking a package tour or to arrange all components separately? Financial you would do better with booking a package holiday. You would save about 120 euro with a trip outside Europe. When you choose to travel within Europe and stay at least 7 days, you would save quite a lot. You would get a discount as big as the price of the flight.

The price of a vacation depends on several factors. A last-minute deal is not necessarily cheaper than a vacation that is booked much earlier. The research shows that the cheapest tickets are booked approximately 140 days (4,5 month) before departure. So that would be the best time to book your holiday in advance.

Opvallend aantal koffers in Europa

Electric Cars, Clean and Getting Cleaner

Electric driving can be pretty cool; it sounds futuristic and you don’t need any gas stations anymore.

Electric driving

Electric driving is very helpful for the planet. With an electric car we avoid to turn the planet into a hells cape. That means that we use energy to drive on, instead of hydrocarbons we dug up from the ground.

Not long ago, it wasn’t that easy to spot an electric car. People were thinking the vehicles seemed rare. But nowadays they’re getting popular. Electric car owners are very enthusiastic about their cars, but why? On a full charge the electric car can get down the road between 87 en 103 miles. There are also getting more and more charging stations, so that will only get easier as time goes on.

One of the most important things is that electric driving produces far less global warming pollution than their gasoline counterparts, and they’re getting cleaner. But how much cleaner are they? Electric cars are powered by electricity, which means it is much cleaner than gasoline. At the end of the same ride a gasoline car will rack up 57 tons of global warming emissions, compared to 28 tons of an electric car. And remember that an electric car battery can be recycled and reused.

Electric driving is not only cleaner, also less noisy. Electric cars are extremely quiet. The only sounds they make come from the tires, the air, and occasionally from the high-pitched whine of the electronics.

Also Taxi2airport has started electric driving from and to Schiphol Airport. So if you want to do something for the world we recommend you not to hesitate and to try it out when you’re in Amsterdam and you need to go to Schiphol Airport!

Tips to Keep Your Home Safe on Vacation

Coming home from your wonderful vacation should be gloomy. But a house or apartment left empty while you’re on vacation is a tempting target for criminals. Basic preventative measures, which take only minutes to complete, can work wonders to keep your home safe and help you avoid power surges, broken pipes, home invasions and more.

Keep Your Home Safe

Ask help from a friend

A simple and easy way is to ask a good friend or family member whom you trust. They can keep an eye on your house and keep your home safe when you’re on a vacation. Ask the person to drive by your house once a day and check the place. Give also your key so they would be able to bring in your mail, feed your cat and water your plants. Don’t forget to give them your vacation contact information in case of emergencies.

Be careful on the web

People nowadays love to share their personal things online. It’s okay to do so, but not when you’re planning to leave your house for a vacation. You need to stop and think: Who exactly is reading this stuff? We think that everything we do and share on the Internet is anonymous, but it’s not! Realize that also strangers are able to see what you’re posting. You don’t want them to know your out on a vacation, right? Be also careful what you say on your voicemail, callers don’t need to know you’re not in your house.

Curtains closed or open?

We can imagine that you think that closing your curtains would be the best option to keep your home safe when you’re on a vacation. It prevents people to look inside your house. However, closing your curtains could also stop the help from your friends and neighbours. They cannot see what is happening in your house. Leave the curtains as you usually keep them. By closing them for one or two weeks, without any change, could also be a hint for them who want to break in your house.

Light on or off to keep your home safe?

Do not leave your lights one while your on a vacation. A house where the lights are always on looks a bit odd. Your electric bill will end up high and besides that, leaving the lights on is not exactly “green“ behaviour. What you can do is purchasing a light switch timer. It can turn your lights on and off automatically. Criminals will keep an eye on your house. When they see your lights flipping they would probably assume someone is doing it, and not a timer.

Pull out the plugs

Also when you’re not using the television, it still uses power, even when it’s turned off. So not only your television, but also your computer, lamps and other appliances in your house use power when they are not in use. So for you electric bill and also safety, it would be better to pull out the plugs while you’re on a vacation to keep your home safe.

Remove your spare key

Many of you have a spare key somewhere by your house. That plastic rock isn’t fooling anyone, especially not when you’re on a vacation. If a criminal knows you’re not at your house, they will try to found your spare key. So reach under your mat, into the mailbox, above the doorframe and into the flowerpot and remove the key before you leave on your vacation.

Tips For Traveling With Your Kids

Flying with children can be a stressful undertaking, however, there is much that you can do to make the trip more pleasant for you and your children. We have some useful tips and information about the policy that some airlines have regarding flying with children.

Flying with children

How to travel on a plane

Traveling with a baby is become popular for many families, they are also eager to take advantage of the many cheap flights that are available. However, flying with children can be very heavy, because of the closed environment of the airplane and the lack of freedom of movement (especially in cheap flights). Children can be very impatient, especially if it’s a long flight. As regards the age of the children, it is important to think that babies up to 7 days old need a medical certificate stating that they are able to travel. As a rule, there are no risks, but it is more of a precaution. Also a visit to an audiologist is recommended, to ensure that the child has no ear problems that can cause further problems while flying. Not all airlines accept babies on board. Although for young children (0-2 years) often no ticket has to be paid, there are some airlines that charge an extra amount. At the time of booking, it is useful to ask how much baggage you may take and if there is a special seat for children at the plane. If that is not, the child could go on your lap. It is also forbidden to use a stroller during the flight; it is issued at the check-in.

Before the flight

Make sure you’ll be at the airport at least 2 – 3 hours before departure. So you can arrange the check-in and give off the stroller. If possible you will be offered a more comfortable seat with more legroom and freedom of movement. You can take advance of the playgrounds on the airports where the children can play in advance.

During the flight you can leave them next to the window, which is very interesting for all ages. If there is no priority for boarding for families with children, we advise you to get in line a bit later. Waiting can be long and annoying for the little ones. The places in the plane are already assigned so u don’t need to rush. Don’t forget to go to the toilets before boarding; little ones can be changed on the comfortable commodes. If you still have to go in line with the children, you can try to distract them with a game, dolls or a game console.

Flying with children

At the plane

Once you’re on the plane, it is important to keep your kids hydrated. The air in the aircraft is very dry so they need plenty of water. It is also advisable to take colouring books and pencils with you. Let them sit next to the window and take headphones so they can listen to music or watch a movie while flying. Flights with monitors often have computer games also. During a take-off and a landing there could be some discomfort with the ears when the pressure changes. To get around this problem we recommend keeping babies awake during departure and arrival. Let babies drink from the bottle or a pacifier. For older children we recommend gum or candy to which they can suck.

Travel sickness

In rare cases of turbulence during a flight, children can become ill. You can buy some syrup for kids or use natural remedies like vitamin B1 such as: artichokes, fish, oatmeal, brown rice, asparagus, cereal and pork. Ginger also helps to reduce nausea; u can give your kid a cup of ginger tea. This is a natural remedy without side effects. Ear pain could also be common with a cold. The most commonly used technique to reduce pressure is the so-called Valsalva manoeuvre: the mouth and the nose closed and put pressure to the back of the throat. You can also use a nasal spray in both nostrils, so the passes freely between the sinuses and the middle ear. Another way is to chew during the flight.

Arrange everything in advance while flying with children

Besides the flight it is also important to know your plan after you’ve landed at the airport. Did you already booked a cab or any transfer, or are you going to do that when you are at your destination? Children can be very impatient and after a long flight they will be very tiered. We can imagine that you want to go home or to your accommodation as soon as possible. That’s why we recommend booking your transport in advance. There are many taxi companies that are driving all over the world. That means that you can arrange a cab drive to en from the airport in any country you want!
